During the July 4th office chair competition in San Clemente on Monday morning, dozens of people bravely walked downhill while dodging the onslaught of water balloons from spectators.
Traditionally, hundreds of people lined the streets of Avenida Victoria and Avenida Rosa to watch participants race down the streets in custom boxcars and converted office chairs to show off their ingenuity.
Although not an official event sanctioned by the city, the local celebration is essentially an Independence Day block party, with many homeowners and apartment tenants living on the street joining in for all the fun of patriotic decor, barbecues and music.
