Home office brand Humanscale just released a new office chair, about half of which is made from recycled materials.Path, as the office chair is called, is made up of 22 pounds of post-consumer materials, 10 pounds of which are recycled ocean plastics like used fishing nets.
Humanscale teamed up with Todd Bracher Studio to create the Path’s minimalist silhouette and streamlined design that fits nearly any home office aesthetic. The chair is available in 32 colors, with fabrics ranging from leather to fabric, or the brand’s trademark FormSense Eco Knit; the latter has a mesh feel that provides self-adjusting lumbar support for anyone sitting in the chair Customized.
The self-adjusting aspect of the chair goes beyond knitted fabrics.Path uses the weight and height of the occupant to automatically adapt, essentially turning the occupant into a counterweight for the chair. If you move, the chair will move with you, requiring little manual adjustment.
Humanscale is committed to creating products that are as good for the environment as consumers.Path is the most sustainable chair to date, and according to the brand, the most sustainable chair on the market. The office chair is climate positive certified, which means it has a third-party certification and has a positive impact on the environment.
The brand claims that for every Path chair sold, it removes 6 kilograms of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, replenishes 15 gallons of water, and generates 23 kilowatt-hours of energy.
The Path is available now on Humanscale’s website with a base price of $1,198 and will follow at Wayfair, Pottery Barn and 2Modern.Each chair can be customized with a choice of 32 colors, four finishes and three textiles. In addition, Path is backed by a 15-year warranty.
